Position Summary

The Senior Manager of Fossil Generation is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the operations, maintenance and administration of an operating combined cycle power plant. This position supervises, manages, and directs the production team to assure a safe environment and culture, ensure goals are met, operational excellence is achieved and maintained, and a healthy plant culture is maintained that is consistent with PG&E’s values.

Direct reports include Supervisor of Operations and Supervisor of Maintenance, plant engineer, and power plant assistants. Through the subordinate supervisors, incumbents are responsible for all operations and maintenance work performed at the generating station. This includes the work of contractors.



      • 8 years power plant experience, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role


      • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other relevant technical discipline.

      • Professional Engineer (PE) license

      • Experience in high-level troubleshooting of plant systems

      • Familiarity with maintaining environmental permits at a power plant

      • Experience with supervising Union Represented employees

      • Knowledge of GE 7FA Gas Turbine Technology is preferred

      • Knowledge of all aspects of commercial long term services agreements for combustion turbines and steam turbines is preferred

      • Experience writing O&M procedures for a combined cycle power plant is preferred


      • Responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the operations, maintenance and administration of an operating fossil power plant with 590 MW capacity.

      • Responsible for all aspects of facility safety program to assure employees, contractors, and visitors are injury and illness free. Responsible for ensuring that the facility is in compliance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP), Ensures that safety is the number one priority for plant employees and contractors. Creates an environment where employees exhibit safe work behaviors. Ensures the employee training and qualification program is maintained in a manner that promotes safety, environmental, and personnel development.

      • Directs plant operation and maintenance in compliance with company policies and procedures and assures plant is in full compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

      • Ensures that the necessary processes are in place to safely and efficiently operate and maintain all aspects of the generating station.

      • Responsible for the overall budget of the facility, including managing variances within the approved annual budget.

      • Responsible for completion of all commercial activities at the facility including contract management, new contracts, and interface with vendors.

      • Evaluates plant operations to identify and implement opportunities for safety, reliability, and efficiency improvements. Develops short and long range plans for operations and maintenance, capital improvements, equipment availability, and plant staffing needs. Applies knowledge of events and practices throughout the industry to improve plant performance.

      • Establishes and maintains relationships with regulatory agencies, local officials, and local industrial leaders, and informs the appropriate persons of any actions, plans, or proposals that may have a bearing on plant operations and activities.

      • Keeps the energy procurement organization informed about plant availability, cost, and related matters.
