Your HRSG is calling, please answer

This July, professionals in the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) sectors will converge once again for the HRSG Forum 2025—one of the industry’s most anticipated annual events. Held July 21–25 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center in The Woodlands, Texas, this year’s forum promises to be one of the most important to date. As aging fleets are pushed to run longer and harder to meet surging energy demands and ambitious emissions goals, the need for practical solutions, shared expertise, and cross-sector collaboration has never been greater.

Hosted by Bob Anderson and a lineup of world-class technical leaders, HRSG Forum 2025 continues its tradition as a uniquely open and collaborative meeting. Unlike many industry conferences, the HRSG Forum welcomes all attendees—plant users, OEMs, consultants, vendors, and service providers—without the need for special membership or credentials. The only requirement is a desire to learn, share, and help advance the performance and reliability of HRSGs. Register today.

Monday, July 21: Deep-Dive Workshops

Monday opens with two intensive technical workshops. The morning focuses on emissions systems, led by experts from Groome Industrial Services and Environex. They will cover system economics, evaluation methods, maintenance strategies, and a detailed case study on full-system emissions evaluation.

In the afternoon, the spotlight shifts to gas turbine (GT) upgrades and their effects on the broader plant. Sessions will cover HRSG upgrade requirements (GE Vernova), plant-wide impacts (PSM), outage planning (Vogt Power), and boiler feed pump performance (KSB Pumps). These sessions are particularly timely, given the industry-wide trend of upgrading GTs to meet operational flexibility and emissions goals.

Monday wraps up with the first of several vendor fairs and networking receptions—a relaxed space to connect with peers, explore vendor offerings, and enter to win door prizes.

Tuesday, July 22: Inspection Innovations and Maintenance Tech

Tuesday brings a wide range of field-based case studies and inspection solutions. Presentations include side wall seal replacements by DEKOMTE, header repairs behind H-class turbines (CAMS, AlphaGen), and duct burner/SCR vaporization improvements from PTS Power. Jera Americas and Groome Industrial will present on kinetic energy cleaning technologies and experience, while Nick Ruscillo of CPV St. Charles will explore drone applications for HRSG inspections—an increasingly relevant tool for hard-to-reach components.

The day closes with a session on HRSG inspection best practices from EPRI, followed by another vendor fair and networking reception with refreshments and giveaways.

Wednesday, July 23: Flow-Accelerated Corrosion (FAC) and Global Best Practices

FAC—a persistent challenge in HRSG maintenance—is the central theme of Wednesday’s program. Barry Dooley from Structural Integrity will lead a foundational session on FAC mechanisms, followed by results-based best practices from the Tennessee Valley Authority and TesTex. Real-world FAC repair case studies round out the morning.

The afternoon features global insights from the Saudi Electricity Company, focusing on valve performance upgrades and thermal risk mitigation strategies—offering valuable lessons from a fleet-wide operations perspective. Yves Schweizer from Solventum will conclude the day with a presentation on dissolved gas control in the power sector.

An evening networking event hosted by EPRI will provide a more informal setting for continued dialogue and idea-sharing.

Thursday, July 24: EPRI HRSG and HEP Technology Transfer

Thursday is dedicated entirely to content from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). EPRI’s HRSG experts—Tom Sambor, Eugene Eagle, and Will Siefert—will present on the current state of the industry, the implications of GT upgrades, backend fouling, and flat end cap damage. The afternoon includes recommendations for new HRSG specifications, updates on valve hardfacing, and the latest research on high-temperature tee intersections.

This EPRI-led day is ideal for attendees seeking rigorous, data-driven insights grounded in research and field data. The day concludes with a happy hour hosted by ValvTechnologies.

Friday, July 25: ValvTechnologies Shop Tour

The forum ends with a unique behind-the-scenes opportunity: a shop tour and lunch-and-learn event hosted by ValvTechnologies. Attendees will get an insider look at valve manufacturing and hardfacing practices, reinforcing the critical role of component integrity in HRSG reliability. (RSVP required.)

Why HRSG Forum 2025 Matters

HRSG Forum 2025 offers a rare opportunity to engage with the full spectrum of the HRSG and CCGT ecosystem—from emissions and inspections to balance-of-plant planning and international best practices. It’s a space where operators, engineers, and experts speak openly about challenges, lessons learned, and solutions that work.

Attendees will walk away with:

  • Practical insights to improve plant uptime and safety
  • Strategies for integrating GT upgrades with HRSG systems
  • The latest in inspection technology, including drones and kinetic cleaning
  • A better understanding of global reliability strategies
  • Deep technical knowledge from EPRI’s extensive research portfolio

Whether you’re a seasoned plant manager, a newer engineer looking to expand your knowledge, or a vendor offering next-generation solutions, HRSG Forum 2025 is where real-world experience meets forward-thinking innovation.
